Program Overview

Come and join our exciting and fantastic Dance classes!

Expanding on our established dance offerings at Repulse Bay, classes in Hip Hop, Funky Jazz, K-Pop, and Disney Dance will also be offered at the DCAA next fall, led by a group of passionate and very experienced Dance Teachers from the Glenda Allen Dance Academy, now in its 30+ years at HKIS. The aim of our Dance program is to nurture all students through their love of music and dance with a strong emphasis placed on performing and the joy of dance. Some of our current Dance Students have again qualified to compete in the World Finals of the "Dance World Cup" being held in Dublin, Ireland in July 2026.

All Dance students are invited to participate in our annual performances. Students who are interested in competing, can also compete in Dance Competitions in Hong Kong, including the "Dance World Cup” and “Get the Beat” competitions.

Regardless of whether your child is dancing for recreational purposes or competition purposes, the Academy’s Teachers share their knowledge, technical and performing skills and encourage each student along their Dance journey with us.

Ballet - A Classical Dance form and which is the Foundation for all forms of Dance.

Creative Dance - A magical and fun introduction to Dance for all younger students.

Funky Jazz Dance - This is a very popular and dynamic dance style performed to a wide variety of Pop music, including R+B. Funky Jazz Dance focuses on musicality, flexibility and strength and learning dance choreographies.

Hip Hop - Hip Hop Dance is danced primarily to funk, rap and R+B music. It can be very energetic and strong emphasis is placed on style and working as a ’team’ or ‘crew’ and learning new choreographies.

K-Pop Dance - An incredibly popular form of dance, students will learn and work on fun K-Pop choreographies that build progressively over 4 week blocks. Students will develop their confidence by performing with their peers in class, as a major component of K-Pop is performance. Students will be taught routines using songs by the very popular Blackpink + KATSEYE.

**All Dance classes begin with a dance warm up, which includes cardio and gentle stretching to prepare their bodies for movement.**

**Weekday 4pm and weekend classes are open to all HKIS Students and non-HKIS students. All the way from Lower Primary to High School students, including classes for Beginners through to Advanced dance.**

• Students can also take part and perform in special Charity events

*All students who participate in our Annual shows are required to purchase a selected costume, which range in cost from $400-$600. If a student has already performed in a dance competition earlier in the year though, then as much as possible, the student can wear the same costume in the annual show held at the end of the school year. An audience entry fee is also charged to help towards the cost of hiring the venue, e.g., Theatre.

Dance Competitions
Students can take part in various Dance competitions throughout the year, including:

• Dance World Cup - finalists travel to Europe for World Finals
• Get the Beat - finalists travel to Singapore for Asia Finals
• Hong Kong Ballet Group
• International Youth Dance

*Students who choose to compete in a Dance Competition(s), will also need to purchase a costume for the competition. Costume costs range from $400-$600 depending on the costume. Competition Entry fees are also required to be paid to the Organisers of the Dance Competition.

*Create their own signature group style, using clothing from home, and by learning how to idol fashion. Students will perform a small performance for their parents and friends, on the last day of the workshop.

--- Themed Workshops ---

Workshops: Create their own signature group style, using clothing from home, and by learning how to style idol fashion. Students will perform a small performance for their parents and friends, on the last day of the workshop.

--- Zumba ---

This class will blend fitness and dance into an exhilarating workout experience. Starting with a Latin-inspired dance warm up, then moving onto easy to follow Latin dance routines set to upbeat music. The class concludes with a cool-down period of gentle stretches, leaving everyone feeling energised and accomplished after a full body workout.
