Health & Safety

48-Hour Fever Policy

If a student develops a fever due to illness, HKIS requires that they remain at home for at least 48 hours after the fever has fully subsided and their temperature has returned to normal. A fever is dedined as a temperature of 37.5°C (99.5°F) or higher. The student must also be fever-free for 48 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication (e.g. Panadol or Ibuprofen).

Vomiting & Diarrhea

Students who experience vomiting and/or diarrhea should remain at home and may return to school only after 24 hours have passed since the last episode. They must be symptom-free for 24 hours without the use of anti-diarrheal medication (e.g. Imodium).

Student Absences

Parent / guardians are required to notify the Summer Program Office in advance or on the day of their child's absence. Please follow the procedures below:

  1. Notify the office before 9:00 AM
    Email summerprogram@hkis.edu.hk or call 2812-5621 / 5622
When reporting an absence, please clearly include student's name and the course they are attending.
  2. Written notice (if known in advance)
Students may bring a written note from a parent / guardian before the planned absence. This should be given to the course teacher at the start of the class.

Student Conduct

All students are expected to demonstrate respectful and appropriate behavior throughout the summer program. If a student displays inappropriate, disruptive, or disrespectful behavior toward teachers, staff or peers, staff will first address the situation using positive reinforcement strategies. If the behavior does not improve, parents will be contacted.

If disruptive behavior continues despite these interventions, the student may be dismissed from the program. No refunds will be issued in such cases.

In exceptional circumstances, where a child's or adult's behavior is considered offensive, unsafe, or extreme, the Summer Program Office may take immediate action. This may include requiring the student to leave the program immediately, without refund. The decision to impose such action is at the discretion of the Summer Program Office.

During the Summer Discovery Program, HKIS may take photographs and / or videos of participants for use in social media and traditional media to promote and celebrate our school, both within our community and with the public. This means that photos taken during the program may appear in publicly-accessible formats, such as the school's Instagram account, and in magazines, newspapers and websites featuring HKIS. In addition, HKIS-approved partner organizations may also use photos featuring summer program students in their communications and promotional materials, in alignment with our media guidelines. If you do not give consent for your child to be photographed / filmed, you must inform the Summer Program Office.

  • HKIS Students - we will refer to your consent on PowerSchool
  • Non-HKIS students - your indication is collected in the SDP registration form
