Health
Health Office
A full-time, registered nurse will be in attendance on campus during the summer program. When required, the nurse will refer to health information provided by parents from the registration form.
Illness
There is no refund due to absences caused by illness, the 48-hour policy, and /or vomiting & diarrhea.
48-Hour Fever Policy
If a student develops a fever due to illness, HKIS requires that they remain at home for at least 48 hours after the fever has fully subsided and their temperature has returned to normal. A fever is dedined as a temperature of 37.5°C (99.5°F) or higher. The student must also be fever-free for 48 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication (e.g. Panadol or Ibuprofen).
Vomiting & Diarrhea
Students who experience vomiting and/or diarrhea should remain at home and may return to school only after 24 hours have passed since the last episode. They must be symptom-free for 24 hours without the use of anti-diarrheal medication (e.g. Imodium).
Student Medical Insurance
HKIS expects students to be enrolled in a personal health insurance plan. HKIS does not provide medical coverage for students if accidents occur during school related activities.
Safety
Student ID Tag (9-year-old or below)
If your child is under 9 years old or below:
- Download the ID tag here
- Complete and cut out the ID tag
- Students should wear the tag on a string / place in a clear badge pinned to their shirt
- This helps staff escort younger children safely and without confusion
Student Absences
Parent / guardians are required to notify the Summer Program Office in advance or on the day of their child's absence. Please follow the procedures below:
- Notify the office before 9:00 AM
Email summerprogram@hkis.edu.hk or call 2812-5621 / 5622
When reporting an absence, please clearly include student's name and the course they are attending. - Written notice (if known in advance)
Students may bring a written note from a parent / guardian before the planned absence. This should be given to the course teacher at the start of the class.
If Parents are Out-Of-Town
The following guidelines apply when both parents or legal guardians will be outside of Hong Kong while their child is enrolled in the HKIS Summer Discovery Program.
- Appointment of a Guardian
If both parents/guardians plan to leave Hong Kong while their child continues attending the program, they must appoint an alternative guardian. Before departure, parents/guardians are required to complete the Notification of Parents' Absence from Hong Kong form and submit it to the Summer Program Office. - Expectations for the Appointed Guardian
Because illness, accidents, or unforseen situations may arise, the appointed guardian should live with the child or in close proximity to provide appropriate care and supervision. A domestic helper who speaks English may serve as a guardian if this is the parents' choice. - Failure to Submit Notification
If both parents/guardians leave Hong Kong without submitting the required notification form, HKIS will not permit the child to continue in the program. - Purpose of the Guideline
This guideline is not meant to interfere with parental responsibilities. Our priority is the safety and well-being of every child. For this reason, the school must be able to reach the child's parents or designated guardian directly while the student is in our care.
Student Conduct
All students are expected to demonstrate respectful and appropriate behavior throughout the summer program. If a student displays inappropriate, disruptive, or disrespectful behavior toward teachers, staff or peers, staff will first address the situation using positive reinforcement strategies. If the behavior does not improve, parents will be contacted.
If disruptive behavior continues despite these interventions, the student may be dismissed from the program. No refunds will be issued in such cases.
In exceptional circumstances, where a child's or adult's behavior is considered offensive, unsafe, or extreme, the Summer Program Office may take immediate action. This may include requiring the student to leave the program immediately, without refund. The decision to impose such action is at the discretion of the Summer Program Office.
Media Consent
During the Summer Discovery Program, HKIS may take photographs and / or videos of participants for use in social media and traditional media to promote and celebrate our school, both within our community and with the public. This means that photos taken during the program may appear in publicly-accessible formats, such as the school's Instagram account, and in magazines, newspapers and websites featuring HKIS. In addition, HKIS-approved partner organizations may also use photos featuring summer program students in their communications and promotional materials, in alignment with our media guidelines. If you do not give consent for your child to be photographed / filmed, you must inform the Summer Program Office.
