About the Program

Our music program is dedicated to providing students with a structured and supportive environment in which to develop their musical talents. By focusing on both individual proficiency and ensemble experience, we ensure that every student—whether in the Band or Strings program—receives instruction tailored to their needs and is supported in making steady, meaningful progress.

The Tier System

Once an instrument is selected, students are classified into three tiers based on their proficiency. This structure applies to both Band and Strings students:

Tier 1 (T1)Foundation Level
  • Semester 1: Students receive two group instrumental or technique lessons per week.
  • Semester 2: Students begin emsemble playing with one full Beginning Band or Beginning Strings session per week.
Tier 2 (T2)Intermediate Level
  • Students attend two sessions per week: one sectional/instrumental class and one full Concert Band or String Orchestra session.
Tier 3 (T3)Advanced Level
  • Students attend two full sessions per week: either two Full Band or two Full String Orchestra sessions.

Instrument Selection for Tier 1 Students

To support students in the early stages of their musical development, we will implement a refined instrument selection process that allows them to begin their training sooner. To support this process:

  • Expert Advice: Mr. Ringo Chan, Director of the Pure Orchestral Centre, is available to provide professional guidance and help students determine which instrument best suits their interests and physical aptitude.
  • Online Exploration: We encourage students to visit the puremusic.hk/hkis website. Under the "Musical Instruments" section, we have curated specific videos demonstrating the characteristics of each instrument.
  • Complimentary Live Trial: As a complimentary service for Level 1 students, we offer a maximum 20-minute live trial session at the Pure Orchestral Centre in Wan Chai. This focused session is designed to help students make an informed choice quickly so they can begin their instrumental studies without delay.

To schedule a trial or seek advice, please contact the Pure Orchestral Centre at 3520 2628 or email info@puremusic.hk.
