THRIVE LAB: Health & Wellbeing for Middle Schoolers

Prerequisite:

Open to students entering grade(s): Grade 6 - 7

Course Description:

Students will explore movement, nutrition, sleep, stress, and digital habits to design a personal “Thrive Plan.” Through fitness stations, snack labs, sleep experiments, and mindfulness challenges, they test strategies, track data, and present a personalized wellbeing toolkit.

Learner Outcomes:

Students will:

  • Explain how movement, nutrition, sleep, stress, and digital habits impact wellbeing and make informed choices in each area.
  • Create and practice personalized healthy routines, such as a movement circuit, balanced snack plan, sleep routine, or mindfulness strategy.
  • Track and interpret simple data (heart rate, mood, energy, habits) to understand patterns and make adjustments.
  • Communicate their wellbeing growth through journaling, visual infographics, and a short final “Thrive Talk.”

Methodology:

  • Hands-On, Experiential Learning: Students learn by doing—through movement stations, snack labs, sleep experiments, and mindfulness practice that make wellbeing concepts concrete.
  • Data-Informed Reflection: Students track simple data (heart rate, mood, energy, habits) and use journaling and discussion to understand patterns and apply insights to their own routines.
  • Personalized Goal-Setting & Choice: Students design their own wellbeing plans, choose strategies that fit their needs, and practice self-management in a supportive, community-oriented environment.
