The Genius Workshop (Term 1)
Program Overview
Since 2004, The Genius Workshop has been a pioneer in Hong Kong's STEM education landscape. Unlike traditional academic settings, our innovative programs immerse students in the applied sciences and cutting-edge technologies shaping our world.
From engineering and robotics to coding and experimental sciences, our thoughtfully-curated curriculum sparks curiosity and taps into the natural creativity of young minds. Through hands-on, play-based learning, our vision is to empower the next generation with the essential skills and mindsets needed to navigate an increasingly complex future. By fostering a love of lifelong learning and discovery, we aim to cultivate students to not just adapt to change, but to be one driving it.
Course & Schedule Details
[Reception 1 - 2]
Jr Engineering Workshop: Mechanics in Daily Life
Schedule: Thursday 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Fee: $4,900 (14 classes)
Location: LP618
Description:
Designed specifically for early learners, this program introduces fundamental engineering principles through hands-on LEGO® construction. Students will build and experiment with models of everyday machinery, including gumball dispensers, clothes presses, and sewing machines, bringing basic mechanics to life.

[Grade 1 - 2]
Engineering Workshop: The Machineries
Schedule: Thursday 3:00 - 4:00 pm or 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Fee: $4,900 (14 classes)
Location: LP518 & LP618
Description:
Through creative LEGO® Technic building projects, students explore simple machines and fundamental engineering concepts firsthand. Each lesson pairs hands-on construction with collaborative discussions to analyze how these mechanisms function. Once their core models are complete, students are invited to modify and optimize their designs, applying cumulative insights from previous sessions. By constructing models that replicate real-world machinery, students bridge the gap between mechanical theory and practical application.
----------
[Grade 3 - 4]
Robotics Division: Structure & Construction
Schedule: Friday 3:00 - 4:00 pm or 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Fee: $4,550 (13 classes)
Location: LP518 & LP618
Description:
The physical stability of a robot is fundamental to its performance. In this course, students use LEGO® SPIKE™ Prime to explore key engineering principles behind durable, functional design. Moving beyond basic assembly, participants learn how to reinforce and optimize their models for better efficiency. Students then program their robots to complete specific challenge missions, putting the strength of their builds to the practical test. Through this process of trial and revision, participants learn to identify design flaws and engineer more reliable robots.

[Grade 4 - 5]
Elite Drone Club (By Invitation)
Schedule: Wednesday 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Fee: $5,200 (13 classes) + $2,000 (drone fee; waived if student already owns a drone)
Location: UP715, 812
Competition: Asia Academic Drone Challenge (Nov - Dec 2026 TBC)
Description: The Elite Drone Club brings together a tight-knit team of passionate drone pilots ready to take their skills to the next level. Selected for their collaborative spirit, problem-solving perseverance, and love for flight, these students will train together to represent HKIS in the wider STEM community. This program serves as the dedicated training ground for the upcoming inter-school drone tournament. Facing off against 90 other schools, the curriculum is focused on event readiness. The team will spend their sessions practising tournament obstacle courses, optimizing their autonomous coding for maximum competition points, and practicing the group communication required to perform on the competition.
