Chinese Character Quest

Open to students entering grade(s): Grade 2 - 4

Course Description

This course is designed for students entering Grades 2–4. Through games, storytelling, art, and interactive challenges, students embark on an exciting journey into the world of Chinese characters. The course introduces foundational strokes, radicals, and high-frequency characters in a playful, age-appropriate way that builds confidence and curiosity. Along the way, students explore the cultural stories behind characters, practice writing with ease, and discover how symbols connect to meaning in everyday life—transforming language learning into a joyful adventure.

Learner Outcomes:

Students will:

• Recognize and write a set of essential Chinese characters appropriate for their grade level.
• Understand the basic structure of characters, including strokes and radicals.
• Connect characters to their meanings through stories, visuals, and cultural contexts.
• Read simple words and phrases with growing confidence and enjoyment.
• Strengthen memory and comprehension through creative strategies such as games, puzzles, and storytelling.

Methodology:

Students will explore Chinese characters through stories, art, and playful games that spark curiosity and joy. Each lesson builds step by step—from simple strokes to meaningful words—while treasure hunts, puzzles, and group challenges keep students engaged. By connecting language, culture, and creativity, our approach nurtures confidence, develops new skills, and leaves students with a sense of excitement for learning Chinese.
