Pinyin Quest: Fun with Mandarin Sounds

Prerequisite:

Open to students entering grade(s): Reception 2 to Grade 1

Course Description:

Join us for an exciting adventure into the world of Pinyin, the phonetic foundation of Mandarin Chinese! In "Pinyin Play," students will engage in a vibrant, play-based learning environment where they’ll discover the sounds of Mandarin through games, songs, and creative activities. Each session will be filled with interactive storytelling, role-play, and hands-on crafts that bring Pinyin to life. Children will learn to recognize and pronounce Pinyin sounds while having a blast with their peers!

Learner Outcomes:

Students will:

• Recognize and pronounce the initials and finals of Pinyin
• Form simple syllables and words using Pinyin
• Participate in engaging games and activities that reinforce their Pinyin skills
• Develop confidence in speaking Mandarin through playful interactions
• Create Pinyin flashcards and crafts that they can take home to share their learning

Methodology:

Our approach centers around play-based learning, where fun and exploration lead the way! Each class will include:

• Interactive Games: Students will play language games that promote sound recognition and pronunciation in a lively, competitive atmosphere.
• Storytelling Sessions: Engaging stories that incorporate Pinyin will help students connect sounds with meaning, fostering a love for language.
• Creative Arts and Crafts: Students will create their own Pinyin posters and flashcards, using colorful materials to visualize their learning.
• Group Activities: Collaborative projects will encourage teamwork, communication, and the practical use of Pinyin in fun scenarios.
