Summer Discovery Day Camp (G2-3)

Open to students entering grade(s): 2 - 3

Course Description:

Come join us on a ‘trip around the world’! Students will be introduced to, and celebrate, the beautiful variety of cultures around our world as they participate in a wide range of engaging activities from each of 5 different countries. Students will be invited to explore these countries through music, cooking, art, games and stories. Certainly students will be encouraged to grow a greater appreciation for cultures around our world in this exciting and fun learning environment! Students will have several opportunities for outdoor play throughout the duration of camp.

Students will:

• Develop an awareness and appreciation of different cultures, traditions, and customs
• Learn to appreciate and experience different types of music and art
• Learn the importance of safety in the kitchen and identify simple kitchen tools
• Practice social and communication skills

Methodology

During the camp, campers will engage in a variety of activities designed to foster both individual and group development. Each day, they will participate in both large and small group activities, allowing them to build cooperation and teamwork skills while also fostering their ability to work independently. Students will have the opportunity to engage in discussions about the books they read with their peers.

The class curriculum will encompass a range of interactive elements, including discussions, shared reading sessions, read-aloud activities, arts and crafts, games, and even cooking projects. To complement their learning of different cultures, children will also take part in engaging and enjoyable activities that provide a hands-on experience. Through this comprehensive approach, students can have a well-rounded and enriching camp experience.
