Summer Adventure Day Camp (G1-2)

Course Descriptions
How do we maintain our children's excitement for learning over the summer? By providing rich opportunities that inspire inquiry through hands-on tinkering, building, thinking, collaborating, revising Science/Engineering-based activities. Campers will engage in experimenting with different types of materials in small and large group activities to construct an understanding of Science/Engineer-based concepts. Campers will also be journaling their ideas, thoughts, predictions, questions, and learning daily to help maintain growth in all their literacy skills learned from the previous year at school.

Students will:
- Engage in hands-on activities
- Practice social skills
- Practice communication skills such as listening and speaking
- Work on fine and gross motor skills
Methodology:
- Campers will participate in large and small group activities each day. They will learn to cooperate with other children and work independently to complete projects. This course will provide in-depth learning and will enable students to make connections across curricular areas
- Sessions will begin with a group activity and a discussion about the day's schedule. Students will then participate in teacher-led and independent activities
- The class will include discussions, read aloud, hands-on activities, projects, games and reflective journaling
- Emphasis on caring, cooperation, kindness, and other age-appropriate social skills
- A deliberate effort will be made to teach age-appropriate communication skills. Students will practice turn taking, listening and respectful behavior. Students will also practice using self-help skills
