Onsom Orchestra

The Onsom Orchestra is offered to members of the Caprice ensemble, selected Rising Band musicians, and Grade 3-5 students with advanced instrumental experience that are interested in playing in a unique ensemble with other instrumentalists.

The Onsom group aim is to provide enthusiastic String, Wind, Brass and Percussion students to collaboratively rehearse and perform as a large orchestra ensemble, enabling it’s participants to further enriching the artistic education and performance experience of the UP Band and String ASA musicians.

The Onsom aims to be a versatile orchestra, open to collaborating with other artistic endeavours of talented UP musicians, and seeks a harpist, as well as other musicians to consider ‘cross-over’ or solo musicians to perform an item with the group.

Learning Expectations for the Onsom Ensemble student:

  • Engage in teamwork and cooperation by working together to create and perform Instrumental Orchestral music.
  • Refine listening, visual and aural literacy, increase technical skills and interpretation of music.
  • Develop and refine personal skills, habits, and processes for success in learning music.
  • Extend personal and artistic expression and deepen aesthetic awareness through music appreciation and performance.

Commitment:

  • Course = 45 minutes per week
  • Personal Practice = 100 - 140 minutes per week.

Class Schedule

Onsom Orchestra  - 3:00 to 3:45pm Friday
A once per week ensemble blending Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion with Strings.  This is an advanced ensemble and would suit Advanced String instrumentalists.  

Policies

The Strings ASA Instruction Fee includes a full year of Instrumental Music classes and ensemble class. All materials and instruments for the instrument learning in both semesters can be provided. Each student receives two classes per week according to the published ASA calendar.
Parent support is crucial in the students' success in the program. Please review the information below for both the student and parent consent.

Commitment
Students are encouraged to 'Practice for Progress' and commit to the team goals.
Attendance at all scheduled classes and performances is expected. 
Concerts include the Winter Concert, May Music Concert.  In-school or community performances may also be held.
For continuity and to experience the full program students are expected to attend a full year class.
CAN is the Church of All Nations, Repulse Bay.

Instrument Loans
Instruments loaned through the program remain the property of HKIS.
Instrument ‘wear and tear’ is anticipated, but damage due to mishandling will be repaired at the parent’s expense.
Instrument Loans are available on application.

Course Materials
Consumables [Rosin, Shoulder Rest, Stop, Strings, Cloth] are provided for the students loaning instruments and inclusive of program fees. 
Other consumables are available as required for own and loaned instruments.
Instruments loaned through the program remain the property of HKIS. 
Instrument ‘wear and tear’ is anticipated, but damage due to mishandling will be repaired at the parent’s expense.
All printed material can be retained by the student.  Copyright of created resources is held by MicraMusic Ltd.

Classes
Registered students are enrolled on the payment of program tuition fees.
Classes missed due to illness or appointments are not ‘made-up’ for the individual who missed the class.
Class content and ‘practice/homework’ is viewable after the class on the designated web page.
Classes are not held on Early Dismissal days, Parent Teacher conferences, or other days when school is not in regular full day session.

Course Alternatives
If civil unrest, pandemic situations or Government directives arise during the school term, MicraMusic Ltd will not provide refunds, credit notes or transfer of fees.
If such situations occur, the program is designed to continue in Blended (Online) Learning.
In either learning delivery mode, students will enjoy a full course program.
Opportunities to join Holiday Camps or other similar initiatives may be provided to enhance music learning.
You will be notified via email if any changes to the published calendar occur. 

Refunds
No refund will be available for classes cancelled due to weather warnings, school closures or other directives from the school.
Paid tuition is non-refundable if a student withdraws from the course. Withdrawal must be in writing. Students who leave Hong Kong may apply for pro-rata reimbursement.

Photography and Multimedia
Completion of enrolment implies consent to the use of photographs, video and sound recordings of your child in performances and class in print, media and online. 

Data Privacy
Personal Data is managed in accordance with Hong Kong laws and ordinances.
