After-school Conduct Expectations (ACE) 

All students will be expected to show good behaviour and adhere to After-School Conduct Expectations (ACE). Parents will need to submit an acknowledgement of the ACE guidelines along with their online registration to complete the registration process.

Program Descriptions & Registration

  1. Allegra (Beginner) Ensemble
    • Students in the Allegra class are Grade 3 - 5  and ready to begin focussed instrumental music lessons on the Violin, Viola, Cello or Double Bass, or students in the first few months of learning a bowed string instrument with a tutor. The Allegra students would be considered at a ‘Beginner’ level of the program.
    • Allegra students experience a cumulative methodology for learning strings.  Through the twice weekly lessons, students will experience a focus class (Violin / Viola or Cello / Bass) where a range of technical [rhythmic, pitch and tonal skills], and interpretative skills [style markings, bowing and dynamics] are developed, and an ensemble class, where the developing skills are experienced in a collaborative team-based ensemble class.
    • Repertoire for the Allegra Ensemble include arrangements of music from the classical canon by renowned composers, as well as works especially for young musicians.
      Learning Expectations for the Allegra student:
    • Gain confidence in performing and increase knowledge about playing a string instrument.
    • Enhance fine-motor and social skills through musical instrument learning.
    • Develop skills in personal management, working as a team and being responsible.
    • Boost self-esteem, learn perseverance, develop social skills and friendships, through being “A Stringer”.
      Commitment:
    • Course = 90 minutes per week
    • Personal Practice = 70 +  minutes per week.

  1. Allegra (Beginner) Ensemble
    • Students in the Brio class are in Grade 3-5 and displaying intermediate level skills on a Bowed String instrument, and typically would be graduates of the Allegra (Beginner) String class, studying with a private tutor, or playing a string instrument for more than a year.
    • Students in the Brio Ensemble are introduced to increasingly complex ensemble concepts and technical expectations.  Building skills to confidentiality sight read, interpret and express music stylistically, and consolidate rhythmic and pitch patterns. 
    • Repertoire for the Brio Ensemble includes arrangements of the regular String Orchestra repertoire, as well as interesting compositions and popular music arrangements.
    • The Brio Ensemble meets twice per week, with one class focusing on technical and interpretive development, with the second class implementing, and refining skills, in  an experiential ensemble setting.
      Learning Expectations for the Brio Ensemble student:
    • Gain confidence in performing and increase knowledge about music techniques and concepts.
    • Engage in teamwork and cooperation by working together to create and perform Instrumental Music.
    • Refine listening skills, improve organisational skills and develop better eye and hand coordination. 
    • Develop and refine personal skills, habits, and processes for success in learning music.
      Commitment:
    • Course = 90 minutes per week
    • Personal Practice = 100 + minutes per week
