Arty Explorations

Open to students entering grade(s): 4 - 6

Course Description:

Join Ms. Kirk in an engaging journey of creative play and artistic exploration in the UP art room! Students will enjoy playful inquiry and build technical skills as they explore a variety of 2D and 3D materials. Inspired by stories, observation, and their unique ideas, they will embark on a creative adventure that ignites their artistic spirit.

Throughout the course, students will deepen their understanding of the elements and principles of art while connecting with fascinating concepts and ideas. The emphasis is on building creative confidence, encouraging curiosity, and providing time and space for students to connect to the world around them, ideate and envision their artistic responses.

Methodology:

In Arty Explorations, students will engage in the creative process through the Studio Habits of Mind, experimenting with an exciting variety of tools and materials. By building these habits, students will develop a well-rounded approach to art-making that fosters technical skills and inspires innovative thinking. These essential transferable skills—creative confidence, problem-solving, curiosity, and a desire to connect with the world—will help students thrive both in art and beyond.
