The Kid Kitchen Culinary Experience

Prerequisite:

Open to students entering grade(s): 4 - 6

Course Description:

Enrich your cooking and baking skills while having fun! Is breakfast your favourite meal of the day, or do you always have room for dessert after every meal? Whether you're a "Junior Masterchef" in the making or more of a "Nailed-it" fan, this course is the perfect course to express your creativity in the Kid Kitchen. This course is for students interested in learning new kitchen techniques straight from a professional chef and trying out delicious recipes from around the world. Students will also learn how to collaborate with other students and create their edible masterpieces by the end of the course!

Learner Outcomes:

Students will:

  • Learn the importance of safety and kitchen techniques applied in both cooking and baking
  • Develop an appreciation for different ingredients and cuisines from around the world
  • Prepare a variety of meals enjoyed on the daily (e.g. breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner and dessert)
  • Explore the 5 different taste elements of flavor (sweet, salty, sour, bitter and umami)
  • Understand the value of collaboration in the kitchen
  • Create their own edible masterpiece by the end of the course

Methodology:

Students will immerse themselves in the Kid Kitchen and learn kitchen safety, cooking and baking techniques, explore different tastes by following recipes from different cuisines around the world. They will understand the value of teamwork and prepare dishes varying from breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner and desserts. Students will then create their own dish by the end of the course to express their creativity through food.
