Reading Strategies for Success

Prerequisite:

Open to students entering grade(s): 2 - 3

Course Description:

Students will have fun engaging in different learning activities that focus on the essential components of reading. Students will be individually assessed to ensure instruction is based on the skills of the students.

Learner Outcomes

Student will:

  • Improve spelling of irregular and multisyllabic words: Not all words are regular and can be sounded out
  • Build Vocabulary Development: increase knowledge of tier 2 and tier 3 words
  • Build Fluency: Accurately read a connected text at a conversational rate with appropriate prosody or expression
  • Build Comprehension Strategies: Students will work to link what they are learning to what they already know through assisted reading, read-alouds, and Reader's Theatre
  • Develop more confidence in themselves as readers and spellers

Methodology:

Students will receive scientifically-based reading instruction in a fun and engaging manner. 

Assessment:

The ongoing assessment and feedback system ensures that students receive the necessary guidance and resources to succeed in their reading journey.
