Stop Motion Animation

Open to students entering grade(s): 4 - 6
Course Description:
Bring your stories to life! This course is for students interested in diving into the exciting world of animation. Over three weeks, students will use the Stop Motion Studio app on iPads to craft animated stories with a clear beginning, middle, and end. They will create characters and scenes with plasticine and props, capturing images that the app will stitch together to create their animations, complete with their own voiceover narration.

Methodology:
Through the following engaging learning experiences, students will develop valuable skills in storytelling, creativity, and technology.
Week 1: Story Development and Character Creation
Explore storytelling techniques and narrative structure
Brainstorm story ideas and create characters with plasticine using pinching and pulling techniques
Week 2: Animation Techniques and App Navigation
Learn to use the Stop Motion Studio app for capturing frames and editing
Engage in practice sessions and collaborative activities
Week 3: Final Project and Presentation
Finalize animations, integrating voiceovers and edits
Prepare for a showcase event to present their work
Reflect on the creative process and lessons learned
Assessment:
Students will reflect on the following throughout the creative process: the clarity of their story, ensuring it has a clear beginning, middle, and end; the uniqueness and detail of their character creations using plasticine; the quality and smoothness of their animations, focusing on frame capture and pacing; the effectiveness of their voiceovers in matching the mood of the animation; and their overall presentation, assessing what they are proud of and what could be improved for future projects.
