Readers Theater
Prerequisite:
Open to students entering grade(s): 2 - 3
Course Description:
Calling all actors, stagehands, and directors. Come to a fun exploration of books and stories through dramatization! Act out characters, build props and film your production.
Learner Outcomes:
Students will:
- Develop creativity, imagination, and interest through arts and crafts
- Engage in a storybook read-aloud by making predictions and observations about the characters, setting, and plot
- Demonstrate an understanding of text structure by retelling and sequencing a story
- Demonstrate an understanding of the characters, setting, and plot in the story by creating costumes, props, and sets for a Readers Theatre performance
- Practice oral fluency by performing the Readers Theatre script
Methodology:
Children will listen to both classic and current story books, practice retelling for comprehension, engage with peers in creating props, practicing for lines, and using technology to film the final production.
Students will have an opportunity to try out different roles and decide for themselves where their interest lies - whether it is in acting, directing, or prop-making.
