Dance and Musical Theatre Adventure

Open to students entering grade(s): 1 - 5
Course Descriptions:
Calling all Dancers, Actors and Singers! Come and join us on a Fantastical Dance and Musical Theatre adventure! This exciting and fun course is taught by a Professional Musical Theatre Dance Teacher from the Glenda Allen Dance Academy and will give children a wonderful opportunity to perform a Musical Theatre show at the end of the camp!
Learner Outcomes:
- Students will learn a number of songs and dances from Broadway shows & film hits. Students can choose which themes and shows they would like to learn and perform
The Musical Theatre themes being taught this year are:
Session 1 (AM)
Week 1 - “Mamma Mia”
Week 2 - “Hairspray”
Week 3 - “The Addams Family”
Session 2 (PM)
Week 1 - “The Sound of Music”
Week 2 - “The Greatest Showman”
Week 3 - “Grease” - Learn a variety of dance styles, e.g., Funky Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, etc
- Memorise and learn a script, songs and dance choreography
- Develop and practice acting, dancing and singing skills in a fun environment
- Stage makeup and hair will be demonstrated and students can experiment under teacher guidance
- Students will learn improvisation to music and choreographing a dance
- Students will have the opportunity to perform at the end of the camp
Methodology:
- Sessions will begin with dance and vocal warm-ups, followed by acting and drama games
- Songs and dances will then be taught and acting skills honed. Scripts will be given out and the Musical Theatre production will start to be pieced together with the songs, dances and acting from the Musical that has been chosen to perform
- Students will discuss and brainstorm ideas together on how to add props and costumes to enhance their production and performance
- Discussions will be held on how Lighting, Sound and Special effects are used to enhance performances
- Students will work together as a Dance and Musical Theatre ‘Family’ who encourage and support each other
- Emphasis will be placed on using imagination and creativity
