Activities Program Overview

HKIS offers a wide variety of paid after-school activities and sports clubs using HKIS campus facilities and is overseen by the HKIS Activities Office. Explore activities in Health & Wellbeing, S.T.E.M., Service and Spirituality, Sports and other Physical Activity, and Performing, Culinary, and Visual Arts.

The programs are designed to expose students to a variety of sports, activities, and personal pursuits allowing students to explore and have fun while developing fundamental skills, healthy habits, and physical literacy. We categorize the activities into three programs below. Throughout this brochure, you will see the icons indicating which category each activity belongs to.

1. After-School Activities (ASAs): After-school activities at the Lower & Upper Primary focus on inclusivity, provide progressive development in foundation skills and are delivered in a safe and fun environment. Most ASAs are offered by third-party providers in partnership with the HKIS Activities Office with the exception of HKIS Aquatics (see below). Activities take place after school at 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. Students have access to school bus options to return home following their activity.

HKIS Aquatics: The Aquatics program’s mission is to provide a developmentally appropriate swimming program for students at Hong Kong International School. Each student will be offered swim lessons and a variety of aquatics activities at their level & ability, thus ensuring students experience success, enjoyment, improvement of their skills, and development of their knowledge & understanding of water safety concepts & skills. Students can connect their curricular learning in P.E. classes and further develop their skills in this after-school program.

2. HKIS Sports Academies: HKIS operates its own in-house Sports Academy / Club programs in Basketball and Soccer to offer our students the opportunity to play sports at a more competitive level. These clubs, in addition to associated sports clubs (see below), compete in local club leagues and offer students an opportunity to pursue their passion for sports in programs that value a culture of excellence, commitment, and respect. These programs enable students to reach their full potential as athletes while maintaining a healthy life balance. HKIS sports academies include Tai Tam Tigers Soccer and Southside Hawks Basketball.

3. Associated Clubs: Associated Sports Clubs are external clubs that offer competitive club-based sports opportunities to HKIS students and the wider community. These clubs are offered access to HKIS facilities to ensure our students have convenient access to club sports in the local area, to expand the sports options available for HKIS students, and or to act as a development or extension opportunity for HKIS students. Practices and competitions may take place on campus or at various facilities throughout Hong Kong. Associated Clubs include Tai Tam Baseball Club, Southside Lacrosse, Valley Fort Rugby, and Stingrays Swim Club.

To determine if an activity is inclusive i.e. non-competitive and all students are welcome or selective i.e. competitive and students will need to try out, you can refer to the below icons featured next to each activity throughout this brochure.
